Fsck failed. please repair manually - aiuto

Non riesco più a riavviare sarge. Ecco cosa mi compare al boot:

please note that the root file system is currently mounted
read-only. to remount it read-write:
#mount -n -o remount,rw/

CONTROL-D will exit from this shell and rebout the system.

Cosa puo' essere successo?
Mentre navigavo si e' chiuso firefox e non si e' più riavviato.
Ho provato a rinstallarlo ma synaptic non me lo permetteva.
Ho riavviato e mi compare quanto sopra.
C'e' rimedio?
