Problema con MySQL

scusate ho combinato un macello nell'installazione/disinstallazione di mysql

dando

apt-get remove mysql-server mysql-client

e con

apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client

ma dopo la nuova installazione ottengo il seguente messaggio

WARNING: /etc/mysql/my.cnf cannot be read. See README.Debian.
Starting MySQL database server: mysqld...failed.
        Please take a look at the syslog.
/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
'/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket:
'/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' exists!


come posso fare a far rifunzionare tutto?
