Ho avuto il tuo stesso problema, il sistema cerca di installare udev (1) 
che però necessita il kernel 2.6.12, quindi installati prima quello, 
apt-get install linux-image-2.6.12-TIPO_PC, e tutto andrà a posto.
Se non si risolve prova a cercare nei vecchi post, c'era un problema simile.
