uhmm... sembrerebbe sbagliato il driver
la serie asus L3500 usa la sis650 che non è supportata da xfree 4.2.1
dal sito di xfree:

Support (accelerated) for the SiS 530, 620, 6326 is provided by the
"sis" driver. The 630, 300, and 540 are also supported, but this
code is new and there are some problems with it in this version.
il supporto c'è invece in xfree86 4.3.0
sempre dal sito:

Support (accelerated) for the SiS 5597, 5598, 6326, 530, 620, 300,
540, 630, 730, 315, 550, 650, 651 and 740 is provided by the "sis"
driver. The Xabre (SiS 330) might be supported by this is completely
untested.
Ergo o cambi versione di xfree (prendendola magari dalla Sid) o intanto
usi il driver vesa (niente accelerazione)
