probabilmente tu hai fatto dpkg -i mplayer-xxx.deb no?

metti sta riga in /etc/apt/sources.list

deb http://marillat.free.fr/ stable main
                             ^^^^^^ 
se usi woody metti "stable", se usi sarge "testing" e se usi sid metti
"unstable"

a questo punto lanci 
apt-get update && apt-get -f install 
così ti installa i pacchetti che ti mancano per far andare mplayer
