For web server redundancy I strongly recommend a pound server in frontof the real web servers.Pound "knows" how to distribute load among back end web servers andknows how to check if the servers are available.

The next step is a dedicated appliance but is more expensive and doespractically the same thing.DNS round-robin is not very accurate and best to be avoided. However theDNS could be used for a geographical distribution of web servers (akamaystyle) with multiple views depending on the query source IP.
