What kernel are you using? The ext2/ext3 file systems do not impose a 2GB limit; any limits you are seeing is due to the internals of the file handling and will remain regardless of the file system you use. In older kernels a configuration flag had to be set to support large files, but large files has been default on the kernels for the past few years.
