indexed searching might occasionally be useful for a corporate mail
store, but how many ISPs need to search through large mail boxes? for
most ISPs, the idea is to store the mail for the user to retrieve it,
and encourage them to delete it from your server ASAP.

there's also the fact that thousands of simultaneous POP/IMAP
connections are far easier for a server to handle than thousands of
simultaneous database connections. most databases can't even handle that
number of connections.

i just don't see dbmail as being useful for ISPs. in fact, i have a hard
time seeing it as being useful in any context - there are better, less
resource-intensive ways of providing fast searches (e.g. mhonarc + htdig
gives you fast full-text searching of a mail archive, not just fast
searching of the indexed Subject:, To:, From:, etc fields)
