nagios is web-based, sends email an can monitor http, smtp, pop (and
additionally also load, snmp, disks..). but it's not really simple to
setup.

thx - i tried nagios and got running after reading the man ( okok ,,,
RTFM ;) but you are right - it is complicated and nothing to let other
guys work with ;)

something like nagios would be great - but simplier regarding
administrtion


There are, or were, web based config tools for Nagios. Might want to ask or look around over on the nagios pages or the nagios-users lists. Not sure if any are in debian.
