Re: Apache2 log file and dir permissions



I am 99% sure the owner of the log files will be whatever the server
is running as, especially if you use logrotate, as (I believe)
logrotate stops the web service, moves the file, then starts the
service again.

You might be able to run a command after logrotate runs to change
the ownership of the log files (that is an option in the
configuration file), and as long as you ensure www-data can write to
it, you should be ok.

I know you can put them in a directory accessible by others. I have
my clients set up to have read access to their logs.
