unable to upgrade from 9.2.1 to 9.30

9.2.1 was installed using dbpk. However, I couldn't find a package for 
9.3.0, so installed from src. I downloaded the src and ran configure, 
make, make install. However, the named binary ended up in 
/usr/src/bind9.3.0/bin

So I moved the new named into /usr/sbin. Killed the named PID and ran 
/etc/init.d/bind9 start.

There was no error message, however rndc status showed that named wasn't 
running.

How do I get this to work.
