Hi!Please check if /etc/pure-ftpd/conf/PureDB exists and contains "/etc/pure-ftpd/pureftpd.pdb".
Instead of man page you could read /usr/sbin/pure-ftpd-wrapper directly. It's perl and quite unterstandable (Even if you are not a perl camel).Further, if the files exist, did you check, if /etc/pure-ftpd/pureftpd.pdb exists? Maybe pure does not create one by default? Check www.puteftpd.org ... If so, please report this to the debian package maintainer.

Thus changes in you conf don't get visible, if you don't kill all pute-ftpd instances before starting new (at least if you run it as "standalone" via /etc/default/puteftpd
