First, pull out the networkkabel to assure, that its not an
external event. Watch system...open a shell and dmesg or something
like that every [n] seconds into a file, then sync.
[n] should be small. You said scsi, so the machine isnt a bad one, try
n=1
If it happens again with network disconnected, chances are, that the
cpu-cooler is distortet. Is lmsensors installed?
Reconnect the network and tell syslogd to log to another machine
(vi /etc/init.d/sysklogd , inser the "-r", add something like
*.* @mylogserver.hereandnow.org
to /etc/syslogd.conf
