Kerberos + SASL + OpenLDAP + OpenSSL

Hi

I want to set up a centralised management point for digital certificates,
login information  and general user information which can be replicated
accross multiple servers. I have come to the conclusion that and OpenLDAP
implementation is what I am looking for.. (Unless anyone can suggest
anything else).. I have read a few LDAP documents which has been very
helpful but can anyone actually tell me is

Kerberos + SASL +OpenLDAP + OpenSSL  really necessary for what I want to
achieve...  There seems to be a lot of encryption involved here.... Are
people generally using this setup for their centralised management... or is
their certain bits and pieces which are *less critical* components...
