I use whatever works best for me. I don't really care what I use (yes, I'd
prefer it to be opensource and all that, but if the tool just isn't
opensource, it isn't).

He makes the software, his rules. You're free to do the same. Don't agree
with his philosophy or the way he codes, designs, etc., make your own ;-)

For example... you could say (using the same line of thought) that all
mail server software should use Sendmail's config format, ugly as it is,
because it is the most widely used one (especially before). But where is
innovation if all we do is blindly tread in the footsteps of others and
commit the same mistakes?

Er... why should Zope use Apache config files natively? Why should Qmail
use Sendmail config files natively? Why should everyone use ext3? Thing
is... as long as there is a relatively painless way to switch between
them, whats the problem?

It's easy... you have a backup of the original. If the "converted" thing
doesn't work, roll back.
