There are some attempts to correct that. 
For .CNO Registrars, this may help:
Gandi::WhoisExtract available at http://open.gandi.net/

It parses owner, contact emails, expiration and creation date of
nearly 80 Registrars (that is 80 distinct output) with a Perl OO
API.
