This is definitely a case of "Don't do that, then". You're forcing the
binary to be loaded against a library with an incompatible ABI; weird
problems are the only result one may expect from that.

The proper solution is to remove those symlinks and install the appropriate
compatibility library packages; use Contents-i386 on your local mirror to
find them.
