RE: Kernels 2.4.x for ISP ?

Title: RE: Kernels 2.4.x for ISP ?

        Hi,

I recommend you to wait until Debian releases woody. If you read the linux-kernel mailing list, you can see how unstable 2.4 kernel series are.....so they still have to work hard.

        Regards.
        Javier.

Hi,

I'm interested in knowing as well.

We run a bunch of webhosting and dedicated servers using kernel 2.2.19 .
Most boxen are Intel PentiumIII or AMD Athlon or Durons.

Will there be much of a performance boost from using the new 2.4 kernels,
or are there many compatibility issues?

Anyway, I know the ext2 2Gb filelimit has been fixed in the 2.4 kernels,
so thats a bonus, but are there any other "great" improvements like that?
And don't tell me about the new USB, webcam, etc. functions and other
"desktop" stuff because these are servers ;-)

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,
Jason Lim
