Updating SQL server

Hi

I am wanting to set up a MySQL database on my server which I can update 
accross the internet using another free standing database like Microsoft 
access. I believe that MySQL has a addon module called MyODBC which allows 
ODBC connectivity.

My Question is however,

Could Microsoft access and MySQL be set up to update each other over the 
internet and if so does this produce some major security issues?

Could all the requests be forwarded through an SSH tunnel?
