Re: Traffic account in debian

hi,

There are several product you can use.
I use a Real Time Traffic Meter ( RTFM ) to log traffic from the network.
The 2 best product I've found are NeTraMet ( little tricky to configure, 'cause of SRL language used to decribe the flows ) and the second one is Argus.
You can apt-get argus-2 from Sid/unstable. Argus is my prefered one. very easy to install and configure, and you can extract every bit of information you nedd about your treffic with the client tools.
You can get traffic for protocol, IP, Host, network, ... everything you need.

When you have one of this running, you graph the datas with MRTG by calling a shell script that polls datas from the RTFM. With MRTG you keep an historic of the traffic for the last 2 years.
Run MRTG every 10mn or less if you want a near real time traffic chart.

Information about Argus can be found at www.qosient.com

Hope this helps,
