According to the apt-get(8) manual page, the -f (--fix-broken) option is
sometimes needed when using apt for the first time. (Even though, I don't
remember this ever happening to me when using apt for the first time on
several systems.)

With the -f option, apt-get tries to fix any broken dependencies.

Have a look at the manual page; and follow the advice it gave you: "Try
'apt-get -f install'".

Good luck,
