It is quite sufficient. Here is my crontab entry, if you need a real-world
example:

0 3 * * * (cd /ftp/pub/debian/UNOFFICIAL; dpkg-scanpackages -m 'Debian GNU/Linux binary-i386' . /dev/null > Packages)
