Re: mail errors
does it happen to the same guy? looks like a normal network problem. your
mail server can't connect to the remote system. most mail servers process
their queue every hour so it may only try 4 times in the 4 hour period
before it sends that warning message. the system usually tries to send
for 7 days before deleting the mail and giving up. when it happens try to
connect to the remote mail server:
run nslookup
hit 'set type=MX'
enter the domain
it will show the MX records(mail servers) for the domain like:
> set type=MX
> firetrail.com
Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1
firetrail.com preference = 10, mail exchanger = mail.firetrail.com
firetrail.com nameserver = ns1.firetrail.com
firetrail.com nameserver = ns2.firetrail.com
mail.firetrail.com internet address = 208.222.179.30
ns1.firetrail.com internet address = 208.222.179.31
ns2.firetrail.com internet address = 208.222.179.30
try to telnet to the mail exchanger port 25 see if it connects, and/or
traceroute it. doesn't look like your using sendmail, but there is
probably a command to process the queue again, or restart the mail server
usually makes it process the queue again.
