Hi,

'nslookup' should be able to tell you if the DNS server is working
properly. It should be able to resolve ipadd->name, name->ipaddr.
this is output from nslookup
[root@bonifacio beyonder]# nslookup
Default Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1

Those DNS rules *could* have be inadvertantly put in place
via a default security provision in WebMin (which I do not use).

Where/how can I verify this?

The named.conf file should tell you the truth.

but it seems this file was not altered. Where else can I look?
[root@bonifacio beyonder]# ls -l /etc/named.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 764 Nov 13 1999 /etc/named.conf

You should check /etc/hosts.{allow|deny} as well.

They're both empty so far so maybe they're not the culprit.

How about I send /etc/postfix/main.cf and /etc/postfix/master.cf? or how about /var/named/*?

Thanks again,

Erik
