Plain old `/usr/bin/w' will output truncated overlong usernames.  Also
`/bin/ps' and `/usr/bin/top'.  There are probably more.

Right.  But then again, why use a distribution when you can compile most of
stuff yourself?  :-) 

I really believe it's not worth the trouble of using usernames longer than 8
chars.
