inetd tcpd vsftpd problem

Hi List,
I have
vsftpd 1.0.0-2.ipv6.r4,
netkit-inetd 0.17-0.1.ipv6rel4pre1.1
and
tcpd 7.6-9.0.ipv6.r1
installed on a dual stacked i386 box with a 2.4.18 kernel
including the USAGI patches.
I was running inetd, tcpd and vsftpd in an ipv4 only
version (latest woody) on it before.

1. I can't get it listening on ipv6 addresses.
2. When I do a ipv4 ftp connect I get
"500 OOPS: can only support ipv6 currently"
but the changelog.Debian.gz says
--snip---
vsftpd (1.0.0-2.IPv6.r3) unstable; urgency=low

  * IPv6 patch upgraded to work with IPv4 as well..
