Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

I think migrating from GNOME to KDE may have done this but I can't remember. I
installed Debian with GNOME by default and then installed KDE separately using
the instructions on the Debian wiki: https://wiki.debian.org/KDE.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?
I started typing a few characters and noticed that the first entry of pinyin is
shown in black (but the rest are ok).

   * What was the outcome of this action?
As above

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
Chinese characters showing correctly for first entry

Hi Phil,

You must be having problem with one of many Chinese input methods. (I am
Japanese).

Let me suggest to install ibus-qt4.

Problem is your bug report lacks critical information to reassign this
bug to appropriate package.  I can guess from:
