Re: DRM/DRI accelerated (3D) graphics?

Dear Émeric,

Thanks, I see that some IA-64 developers/contributors/testers/(?) have been
looking at the mailinglist, or made some progress. I'll try it out soon,
or as soon as I can. This sounds interesting.

If you have any tips and advice, that you could give me, or suggestions for
which card to try out first (FireGL X1 AGP or HD5450 PCI) and/or in which
system (rx2620 "Montecito" or rx2600 "Madison"), please let me know.

Kind regards,

Marco

Hello Marco,

OK, no problem with GART and DRI initialization apparently. And what
about your Xorg.0.log? Any error reported there? Does it say:

[    35.968] (==) Using system config directory "/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d"

or are you using a custom xorg.conf file?

FYI, Mesa 7.11-5 just landed into Testing. GL rendering is now correct
(I've updatedhttp://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=622299
accordingly) and ioQuake3-based quake3 is running fine too :-)

Dear Émeric,

Today I had time to try it with the FireGL X1 (AGP) card in my rx2620, this
is what
I see:
_____________________________________________________________________________
# dmesg | grep -i AGP

No "unaligned access" this time, except for the "Network Manager." However,
nothing seems to come up on the screen. (Except a blinking cursor.)

I tried to reset things like GDM, delete the temporary files (in /tmp).
Still nothing though.

Kind regards,

Marco

Hello Marco,

The unaligned accesses you're reporting aren't related to your
graphics adapter/driver, but to the X.org server itself.
I'm also having unaligned accesses with current X.org, but also with
NetworkManager, Iceweasel or the ioQuake3 engine to name a few.

Sorry to ask, but did you check your Debian 6.0.2.1 CD/DVD image?

Indeed, Squeeze 6.0.2.1 ships with kernel 2.6.32 IIRC
(http://packages.debian.org/fr/squeeze/linux-image-2.6-mckinley). I
thus don't understand how the setup program ends up with 2.6.26 kernel
modules!

Or maybe the Linux image (default name) of your elilo.conf file points
to the wrong kernel.

Okay, Debian 6.0.2 is installed now. Here's some information, below:

Any ideas? (I'm using the earlier mentioned HD5450 PCI here.)
