help with getting libfreetype6 fixed

Is there anything that could be done to get the patch in this:

  http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=259875

bug-report integrated into the Debian libfreetype6 package?

The patch was accepted by upstream almost immediately [1] (about 3
months ago!) but the Debian package still isn't fixed. That's quite
annoying because the bug leads to potentially long stalls. For
example, on one machine (with lots of fonts installed), visiting
slashdot.org takes about 1 minute to render each page if the
above-mentioned patch isn't installed. Note that the bug affects all
platforms, though the effect is more serious on 64-bit platforms.

I already sent a (friendly) reminder to the package maintainer a few
days ago but didn't get any response.
