The <sc1236...> message is just NPTL trying to see if you have an NPTL-capable kernel. Upgrade to the latest (stable) kernel and you should be all set. If the X server problem started because of a libc-upgrade, you can also try: LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.18 command This will force "command" to be executed without NPTL. I doubt any of this is related to ogle. For what it's worth, I occasionally try DVD playback with xine, which has been working well. --david
