I'm sure some pieces are shared, but others are not.  There was a
problem with the Debian freetype package which got fixed recently (the
package didn't get compiled with -fno-strict-alias and that resulted
in bad code that could cause crashes), but the issue only affected
certain features (like Gnome print previewing).  Basic anti-aliased
font-rendering was not affected by it.
