Ok thanks for the information.

I then skipped running ntpdate at boot time as it would oops.

I still have a kernel oops (with stock 2.4.14) when the network
interface
(eepro100) is being brought up ( ifup ).

I will try to get the information through ksymoops and i will report it
then.
