Here, I agree this is pejorative and, indeed, I'm not that surprised. Sorry to Martin: the fact that this specific mail was not cc'ed to -i18n is what lead me to make the wrong assumption (that you were adressing Justin). This is a very very very common debate between jargon users and translators. Some are working in their own world, the world where "Logdateien" or "Fichiers log" means something. The other try to work for the average user, Monsieur Dupont or Frau Schmitt, for who "un log" or "ein log" is just plain Chinese. This is most of the time impossibile to reconcile...and, in such situation, my recommendation is putting the jargon as an alternative: "Les journaux (« fichiers log »)....blah blah" (actually, in French, we don't even feel the need to mention the jargon word in this specific situation as the French word is accepted *and understood* well enough, even by geeks)
