That's an abbreviation, not an acronym. Anyway, I'd suggest either
SYN (synchronisation, which is what I think it's for)
or
PUB (publication, which is what I think MAJ literally means)
in preference to UPD, because I've not seen UPD as an abbreviation
anywhere else.
