Help on translating the Package-Datbase

Dear Users,

i just stumbled over the broken ddtp.debian.org site where nothing has
been rebuild after the "crash".

i want to do some work on translating the package-database
descriptions from english into german. my question is now where should
i start and what should i read for getting involved with this task?

who is currently responsible for this part, is help needed, or is this
the wrong list for such questions?
