Re: Wanted: Keyboard info

Kostas omitted to mention this is aimed at further developments in the
localization-config package. This package is essentially (but not
only) used by the Debian installer for preseeding, among other things,
correct X keymaps to the XFree packages.

The current version sets the keymap from the configured locale, which
is not always appropriate (for instance, for those people who think
it's smart to choose English as the system language when you indeed
speak French...:-))).

Next versions will try to better map the X keyboard from the keymap
chosen in console-data, that is the one chosen when running the installer.

The idea is, IIRC, first getting the keymap, regardless of the
locale. If it is not set, then use the locale.

Now for the data:

Speaking for fr_FR users...

fr-latin9 (other are considered obsolete and not proposed by the installer)

_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "xfree86", "pc105", "fr", "", ""

fr_FR@euro. This should also work for fr_FR.UTF-8 and fr_FR

Other fr_* locales should use different settings...
