Package: lists.debian.org
Severity: wishlist

This is a request for the creation of the debian-l10n-bidi mailing list.

Name: debian-i18n-bidi

Rationale:

The support for bidirectional language (BiDi) is a requirement for
internationalisation for several languages such as Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi,
Urdu, etc.

Recent improvements in text libraries have for instance made possible to
have the Debian Installer translated into right-to-left languages, and
several graphical environments now support BiDi.

Having a mailing list dedicated to the support of these language will help
translators and developers for working on these issues.

This list can also be a preparation for dedicated -l10n lists for Arabic,
Hebrew, Farsi and maybe other languages.

Short description:
Discussion forum for internationalising Debian in right-to-left languages

Long description:
This mailing list is aimed at providing a forum for developers and translators
working for the support of languages written right-to-left in Debian.

This includes the support of "BiDi" (bidirectional) in libraries, text
interfaces, graphical user interfaces.

Translation of web pages, templates, programs to these languages is also
covered by this list unless more specific debian-l10n-* list exist.
