[miles@lsi.nec.co.jp: Bug#242676: aptitude doesn't work well with LANG=ja_JP.utf-8]
I don't really understand what to do about this bug. Could
anyone give me some suggestions? (pleace Cc me, I'm not on this list)
In particular -- do I need to convert the pofile to utf8, and how would
I go about doing that?
Thanks,
Daniel

To: Debian Bug Tracking System <submit@bugs.debian.org>

Package: aptitude
Version: 0.2.14.1-2
Severity: normal
In my UTF-8 gnome-terminal, LANG=ja_JP.utf-8 is enough to make most apps
display japanese messages correctly, but aptitude's output is largely
gibberish. It seems to be using a Japanese translation, but the
character encoding is wrong (it appears to be EUC-JP).
I notice that the .mo file for aptitude is encoded using EUC-JP; should
the message-catalog library stuff do the conversion to UTF-8, or would
aptitude need to come with both?
Thanks,
-Miles
