Re: encodings for debconf templates

Hi,

--- for Joey Hess ---
I am now discussing about internationalizing debconf.
This is related to Bug#148490. Please read
http://lists.debian.org/debian-i18n/2002/debian-i18n-200207/msg00002.html
which is the origin of this discussion.
I wonder you don't subscribe debian-i18n list. So,
I add your address to "To:" field hereafter.
Sorry that I didn't inform you since the beginning of this discussion.

Catalan.

"se" is Sami. However, I think it may be a typo in Debconf template.
How do you think about

http://ftp-master.debian.org/~barbier/l10n/material/templates/unstable/main/libr/libroxen-imho/libroxen-imho_0.98.3-3_debian_templates.gz

with Description-se: field?

For my script to work well, *all* Debconf templates will have to
be converted and my script will have to be integrated into debconf
package. Since I don't know at all about the internal of debconf
(though I know about how to handle encodings), I will need help.

For debconf to work well for most of people, migration of Debconf
templates will have to be done in a short period, because debconf
won't work well during template migration. If this will be a large
problem, some mechanism will be needed to handle both of conventional
and UTF-8 Debconf templates.

BTW, does Text::Iconv(3pm) works well (I mean, we can convert ISO-8859-*,
KOI8-R, EUC-* and so on) without "locales" package?
