That's no more true. i18n is enabled for stable. But it has not been
compiled into dpkg, it does use gettext from libc6 :
dpkg (1.4.0.35) stable; urgency=low
.

* Reverted workaround. Compiling without the options
--with-included-gettext solves the core-dump problem.
The explanation why it does work so ? I don't know ... this bug is really
strange and probably involves a bug in gettext itself. Santiago can tell
you more about strange things with gettext. :)
