Introducing po-pod

I'm pleased to introduce you po-pod, the new member of the po4a familly.

About po-pod
============

The goal of po-pod is permit translators to face only well known po files
while translating pod documentation. For that, three scripts are provided:

 pod-gettextize original.pod [translation.pod] -o file.po

     This script convert pod files to po ones, preparing work for
     translators. If you have a previously existing translation under the
     pod format, provide this to the script, it'll put its content in the
     produced po file.

 pod-updatepo -i toto.pod -i tutu.pod -i tata.pod -o fr.po -o de.po -o ru.po

     This script will make sure that the po files are uptodate wrt the
     provided pod files (in gettext world, it does a xgettext and a
     msgmerge). Ie, make sure they contain the newly written text of pods,
     that paragraphs which changes are marked fuzzy in translations and so
     on.

     As you can see, the script can put the translations of several pod
     files in the same po file, and can also handle several translations in
     one invocation.

 pod-translate toto.pod fr.po -a toto.addendum.fr -o toto.fr.pod

     This script is in charge of producing the translated pod file. The
     addendums are to add stuff into the generated file which is not the
     translation of something in the original (like a section giving
     translator name).

     It is possible to ask pod-translate to discard the generated file if
     less than X % of its strings are translated (default: 80%).

About po4a
==========

The goal po4a [po for anything] project is to ease translations (and more
interstingly, the maintainance of translation) using gettext tools on areas
where they were not expected like documentation.

This is an ongoing effort, and the following sub-project exist:

 - po-debconf: Joey Hess did deprecate his old system to translate debconf
               templates and use po-debconf for debconf itself.
	       See also http://www.debian.org/intl/l10n/po-debconf/
 - po-debiandoc: It is used to maintain the translation of dselect-beginner
                 and release-notes to french. developper-reference may
                 benefit from it very soon.

(both of them were done by Denis Barbier, and are available in the packages
of same names)

More information
================

Currently, the po4a team counts two members:

Denis Barbier <barbier@linuxfr.org>
Martin Quinson <Martin.Quinson@ens-lyon.fr>

We have a project on savannah, but no fancy webpage yet. For now, we only
use the CVS from there:

If you have questions, we have a mailing list here: po4a-dev@nongnu.org
