I cannot reproduce the issue with qemu-kvm 9.2.0. It's not supposed to
have any impact, but could you try to reproduce with qemu-kvm?
Did fsck perhaps complained about errors on the disk? (which would mean
some missing sync at the end of the installation)

It's obviously already automatic since ever.

I don't know what would be special in your case, it "just works" for me.
