Porting packages with pthread_* undefined reference

Hi,
I've downloaded source package of xpdf. After asking few questions on IRC I 
came to place when binaries are build and work on my hurd system(whole 
package is not build because of some dependency errors, which I will solve 
later). There are many such packages which need a simple fix of 
adding -lpthread in some Makefile.in files. I think I can do it on my own.
If I find a way to build few packages, would any developer implement my fixes 
into debian packages? How to provide these fixes? In a human readable text 
format or some diff or patch?
