Ok, that was the reason:
mziegler@hurd:~$ showtrans -t /hurd/*
/hurd/ext2fs: /dev/hd1s1
/hurd/ext2fs.static: /dev/hd1s1
Sorry for that, seems that i've missaranged settrans arguments some hours
ago? Very stupid. As you can see i'm new to translators...
"make install" now installs - so next task is to reconfigure my NIC which is
lost in the selfmade kernel :-)

So i will reinstall the system and start from a fresh (never crashed
:-)
filesystem.
Cute, you could check if any translators got attached to /hurd/ext2fs
and/or /hurd/ext2fs.static by accident. But oh well...
