btw, i remember that sometime ago most GNU core packages were assigned a volunteer to ensure new releases would build on (sig) GNU. who was the coreutils "maintainer"? I didn't know that there was an "offical" position for that, but unofficial I used to take care of coreutils so that it would compile on GNU/Hurd. I can continue that work when my load gets lighter (less than a week or so from now).
