cross-compiler madness!
I may have just scored on a used netwinder box. If
so this brings my Debian GNU Zoo up to this:
(current)
alphatron: Debian Linux 2.0 ( laptop Compaq Contura 4/25c ) - The
original! [gave to wife]
pavilion: Debian Linux 2.1 ( HP Pavilion 8250 ) - Waaay faster than
alphatron. [on "loan" to wife]
thunder: Debian Linux 3.0 + Hurd ( Tyan Thunder 100 creation ) - Dual
PII 450 rocks! [mine!]
mirage: Debian 3.0 ( HP9000 715/80 ) - This must have cost big $$$ when
new! [mine!]
(pending)
unnamed: don't have yet ( Netwinder StrongARM ? ) - Potential Hurd/ARM
box?? [mine!]
Unfortunately my wife rarely, if ever boots to Linux, but she's a
compter newbie. Instead
I get: "It says windows has performed an illegal operation," to which I
say something like
"You better call the cops!" or "Hope you saved your file recently..."
She will learn.
Anyways, lacking anything better to do, I'm trying to build a slew of
cross-compilers on
my dualie PII box since it blows everything else away with a parallel
make. I'm leaving
the Debian "cheap" hurd cross-compiler, but am also making "full power"
i686-gnu,
hppa-linux, and arm-linux cross-compilers.
Haven't heard back yet from the Netwinder seller, but if it works out I
may begin the
Hurd/ARM port for extra fun :-)
Cross-compiling binutils was a piece of cake. I got hurd and oskit-mach
headers installed
in /usr/i386-gnu and /usr/i686-gnu, and built i686-gnu-mig so far. Now
onto the more
tricky stuff like gcc and glibc.
Cheers!
