Xdm make my screen black (was: X11 failled to run ...)

Thanks to all for advices,

I finaly add LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /etc/profile. With last hurd package I reach to
create the kbd device then I launch the translator for my PS/2 mouse. And startx
works fine (even thought I do not yet find the way to launch rxvt).

Then I try to launch /etc/init.d/xdm start. xdm seems to begin to init monitor
but nothing more happened and no way to come back to a tty. Also I only have to
hardly reboot my box and so I lost all trace which could be write to xdm.log.

Thanks in advance for additional help,
        Joel

PS:
1. I had to chown root:root /tmp dir which cames with gid=1000 with the H1 CD
instll (this make startx to failed: suspicious non root:root owner of /tmp/.X11...)

2. Does it exist a way to have access to a serial consol to try to take back the
control of the box to avoid the hard reboot?
