Hm, did you try to _compile_ gnumach? Personally I do
cd gnumach
export PATH=/usr/i386-gnu/bin:$PATH
mkdir build
cd build
../configure i386-pc-gnu --enable-floppy --enable-aic7xxx --enable-3c90x
make
and the kernel is in gnumach/build/kernel
