Troubles with booting the Hurd.

I'm attempting to run the Hurd off of an extended ext2 partition.
Whenever I manually configure Grub to boot the GNUmach kernel it always
freezes after the detection of the floppy device.

Is it possible that the Hurd cannot successfully load itself from
partitions that reside above the 1023rd cylinder? If so, how can I work
around this issue?

Unfortunetly I cannot re-partition my hard disk. I got Debian GNU/Linux
fully customized to my needs and do not wish to re-install the entire
base system and then re-configuring an entire list of daemons.

Has anybody create Hurd rescue floppies yet?

Thanks,

Stef
