Just a bit more diagnostics...
The errors from programs other than ping were:
/lib/libnss_db.so.2: undefined symbol: db_open
So yeah, tis a libnss problem. I removed libnss to see if I could get
ping working again and I started getting these problems
socket: translator died
from both ping and friends such as telnet, ftp etc. Expected I suppose since
libnss is obviously required for such things to work.
but anyway, I'm guessing db_open is a good place as any to start looking, yeah?
